design: typographic notes

Design
Typography
Fonts are the clothing that our ideas wear

Serif text is much easier to read for the human eye
sans serif is harder to read for human eyes

some designers say the font should express the emotion of the word

when you are creating you want your font to be legible , the intensity of the color should also be considered
you should use fonts that are appropriate
people can make a living out of making their font for companies
SERIF VS SANS SERIF
serif: paragraphs and reading
sans serif: for tittles, business cards

Too many fonts will spoil a design and confuse the reader. Have two fonts that contrast well not 5 different fonts
Fonts that are too similar cause ambiguity. Make your design look cleaner.

All caps IS HARD TO READ AND PEOPLE CAN THINK YOU'RE CRAZY it is only appropriate on magazine title , business names . Its equivalent to shouting its not design.

Left alignment reads easiest and consider eye flow as it moves down the page, you want the flow to be as easy as possible. Left align is better right align is just weird have proper color choices

Emphasis:use these tolls with discretion and without disturbing eye flow. you can use a little bit a color to attract but not too much.

Integrity:avoid stretching or distorting type. You destroy their integrity.

Weight: strive for a sense of balance. Having balance in a design is a good skill

The Mac is not a typewriter
Kerning and tracking are related and refer to the spacing between characters to achieve a pleasant result.

Large text blocks are called rags . Easier to read and pleasing.
