Logo research : Walmart

The first Walmart logo was created in 1962 and used through out 1964 and was a simply blue text reading Walmart. The reason being that when Walmart first opened it did not have a name or logo that established to they picked a simple text. Starting in 1964 Walmart had an official logo in the font "Frontier Font Logo" and remained the official logo for 20 years up to 1981 and added a hyphen.  At around the same time that the first official logo was made there was a second logo they used that was created two years after the official Walmart logo but died with the original logo in 1981. The second logo they used on employee uniforms and smocks, print advertisements , and in-store signs. However it never appears this way outside of the store, the sign on the front door remained the "Frontier Font Logo" as well as on yearly reports or any other official paper work. After 20 years of a strong going logo they decided they needed  fresher look so they came up with a new logo in 1981-1992. The logo this time was brown and kept the hyphen. In 1992 they once again changed the logo to blue and replaced the hyphen with a star. It was kept until 2008. However many stores still have this logo. Front 2008 to the present day Walmart changed their logo to a different font and added a yellow spark , removing the star/hyphen.
